Brasov City, the capital of Braov region, with a population of almost 300,000 inhabitants, was first mentioned in documents back in 1235, as a medieval fortress built over a former neolithic settlement. It is located in central region of Romania, about 166 km from Bucharest.
It is surrounded by the Southern Carpathians, and is part of the Transylvania region. It takes almost 3 hours drive from Bucharest International Airport to Brasov. Intercity trains and European roads are connecting Brasov to the major cities in Romania and Europe.
Brasov gives you the opportunity to visit old historical monuments and museums that reflect the cultural as well as historical importance of the place. A panorama view of the city can be seen from the top of Mount Tāmpa (995 m).
Brasov is an old medieval city. The buildings of Brasov reflect the evolution of the city throughout ages. Also known as Kronstadt or Corona, Brasov was the home of some of the best craftsmen, jewelers, and traders living in Transylvania. The city of Brasov boasts of a rich historic heritage. Surrounded on three sides by mountains, it was a perfect place for a medieval settlement. The old city, founded by the Teutonic Knights in 1211, is one of the best preserved.
Higher Education in Brasov
The beginning and development of university education in Brasov are rooted in ancient cultural traditions and cultural climate of the city mostly. Here, technical and scientific creation engineering - well known - the creative artistic activity in the fields of literature and popular culture and intensive studies in many schools at all levels, be blended into perfect harmony.
In 1940 it set the basic higher education in Brasov, at the Academy of Commercial and Industrial Studies. The Forestry Institute into being in 1948 and 1949, the Institute of Mechanics. Since 1953, the Institute for Forestry and Forest Institute is following the merger between it and the Mechanics Institute was formed in Brasov Polytechnic Institute.
Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
Since the academic year 2005-2006, teaching activity is organized by courses of study: Graduating studies masters and doctoral studies.
In 2008 Transylvania University celebrated 60 years since the establishment of the first structures of higher education in Brasov, years of continuous development, which have enabled the university to state that the reference entity Romanian academic space.
